It is a 32 Litre Glass tank and has a few goldfish in it. If it is safe, then what type of colour/colours do you reccomend?? The Tank also has smooth natural river stones, a banana lilly, a large pongol, an amazon sword and hair grass. What colours would go with that. Thnks.

If your aim is to have a colorful tank, then choose a colorful background. There are many, many options for backgrounds. If you color the water, it will look dirty. And then you would have to add the coloring again and again and this practice would add unnecessary chemicals and waste to your tank which seems to be off balance already.

Another option is to choose gravel that has a color you feel goes well with your design. How about trying to coordinate the color of your fish with the background, plants, and gravel? This would be a great deal better than risking the health of your fish.

Good luck!

Your tank is already an aquatic torture chamber, so why not add a little food coloring and make things 10 times worse.

In all seriousness, your tank is WAY WAY WAY too small for 1 goldfish, mush less a few...

The 1 inch per gallon rule is a false rule for many reasons, and it almost always leads to an overstocked tank. But even if you do go by that phony rule, it is 1 inch of adult fish per gallon, for goldfish they say 1 inch per 2 gallons. Even the smallest goldfish grow to 6 inches. 32 liters is 8.5 gallons. So even if you do go by the false rule, that tank is too small.

But even 12 gallons is too small for a goldfish, so I don't reccommend the use of the inch per gallon "rule."

Don't ever insult the intelligence of a person who actually does a little research. If you read up on goldfish from a credible source you will find our that goldfish stunt in tanks that are too small. Stunting is extremely painful and fatal to fish. That is why even the smallest goldfish need 20 gallons PER FISH.

People who cause suffering to their fish because they are too lazy to do 15 minutes of research are not people who should deserve to keep fish as pets.

Oh, and where did you get the idea that I said to get a smaller tank?

No i wouldn't think it is safe. The food coloring might have chemicals that might be harmful to your fish. You probably might as well give chocolate to a dog!!! I wouldn't recommend that you do that.

Well, I wouldn't. It's stupid for two reasons. One because you don't know if it will kill them and two, because it will dye the fish and plants too!

No - it will color the fish too and their internal organs - will probably kill them.
