Asteroids hit the earth all the time. In Arizona, there is a huge crater, 1.2 km in diameter, that was formed 50000 years ago when a meteorite about 50 m in diameter struck our planet.
In 1908, an object of similar size explode at high altitude above Siberia, flattening everything in a 26 km radius.
So, we know that meteorites strike the earth (even if earth active geology and erosion can erase such marks).
Knowing that, a distribution of the frequency and size of impact objects can be established. A meteorite large enough to wipe out most life on this planet -- like the one that did the dinosaurs -- should statistically occur every 60 to 70 million years.
We know it did happen, and we know it will happen again.
When? That is what no one knows. The object that will strike earth next has not been spotted yet, because it does not have to be so big to be so destructive. 10 km in diameter may appear big at human scale, but in space, a rock like that is very easily missed, especially since it may be anywhere, and could take million of years to get near.

Asteroids have struck the Earth countless times. It is a widely held concept that our moon was formed by an asteroid ripping part of the Earth's surface off while it was still molten. Yes, there was a large strike at Chixchilub in Mexico of either an asteroid or comet, they're not sure, that occured around the time of the dinosaurs demise. The Chesapeake Bay near my home is the result of an asteroid skidding into the Earth, and if you take a good look at the moon- those craters and pits on the surface are the work of asteroids.

Yes , they have struck the earth before , in fact they strike
everyday in the broken up form , as meteorites.
One of the most famous was also the largest , an asteroid
assumed to be 10 kilometers around struck what is now the
Yucatan Peninsula, which it helped create. It blew out a 65
mile area , covered the earth in dust , blotted out the sun and
it may have killed the dinosaurs. Remember them?
Another in 1490 killed 10,000 people when it exploded in the
atmosphere over the Chinese city of Chiling-yang.
350 know large asteroids and meteors have struck in the past
10,000 years , that's one every 28.57 years , which means we're
wayyy overdue.
A major strike could occur by the year 2036 and wipe out
a good portion of earth , provided the OTHER last days don't
happen first.

Yes, the dinosaurs were real. Yes, the earth gets hit with meteors all the time. Just look up at the moon and check out the craters. Ask yourself why would the rocks only hit the moon and not the earth?

Remember Shoemaker-Levy 9? The comet that hit Jupiter a few years back? If something that size hit earth, we'd be done for. We're already tracking asteroids that cross earth's orbit. Check this web site out:

Scientists are pretty sure a comet is going to come very close to the erth in like the year 2027 or something. If it hits into our gravitational feild, 7 years later it will hit the erth and destroy part of it and cause a tidal wave. Today we dont have the proper technology but then we mite hav the technology to hit the comet off course so it wont hit erth. They are pretty sure. If you live in the United States and arent on the coast of california, then your safe i think. I got this all from an article from a news channel website.

Why is it that atheists can in reality arise with questions that attempt to placed down the fundamentalist position even as fundamentalism represents on 10% of Christianity? Do you in reality have problems with those who interpret the Bible actually? if so, then I believe you. And yet i'm a Christian. Is is in any respect plausible that a narrative might want to have a deeper message than the only it truly is on the exterior in a literal interpretation? have you learnt that Christ Himself referred to as the literalists of His day a "brood of vipers" because by their insistence on the "letter of the regulation" which became Scripture, they missed the regulation's meaning, and as a effect made it harder for human beings to approach God? in case you opt for to question Christianity then question what the overall public have self assurance about it... no longer a small minority.

Well if the world ends tomorrow what is there to worry about? There is nothing to do about it to prevent it. Just live the way you should.Tell those that you love that you love them. Be one with your soul and do everything that you wanted to do. I believe where one world ends, another begins and we will all be reborn and experience the joys and sorrows of life again. Blessed be. Maeve.

for sure the world is going to end. the earth is moving farther and farther away from the sun and this will cause climate changes. scientist found out that mars was inhabited before. maybe before it moved away from the sun. but the question "is the human raced doomed to extinction" remains unanswered. the answer lies with us, the human race, and our choices. make yours a good one.
