Hi everyone, I just got a new PC with a much different virus/network security program than what I am accustomed to. It is called Trend Micro PC-cillin. Anyway, I keep getting these messages that there are unknown computers connected to my network. The latest one shows an IP address of 192.168.1.101 -- could that be my Linksys routher, which is how I connect my husband, or is it really another computer using my internet access? How do I tell? My husbands computer is not on presently so it would not be his, so I'm not sure what to think about this. Any help for someone who knows nothing about IP addresses? Thank you very much for your help.

With a new PC you are more than likely going to have to change the privacy of your wireless network. That being said,it is very likely that your or your husbands IP is 192.168.1.101. Go to Start>Control Panel>Network Connections and right click your LAN, go to status and then click the support tab. This will show you your IP and do the same on any other PC in the house on the network.

have your hubby send an email to you. When you open up the email in the top right you will see the word header. Set it to full header. .What will follow is the how the email is sent, received and delivered. Just look for the IP in the first couple of lines. If it is there you know it came from him. Try it on some other junk mail you get.

Now go to wugnet.com. Look in shareware and there is a program called email locator. You can download a free 15 day trial. It shows you how to locate the location of the person sending the email. Guaranteed to work. I had meet some women on line who said they were from USA. Right just some Russian and Nigerian scammers. I have fun. I swear to them I have sent them money on western union. LOL I told one that maybe someone is getting it before she does. Anyway, hope this helps.

192l.168.1.101 is a private IP address. This means that the computer with that IP address is attached to your local network. Private IP addresses are blocked by your ISP from getting out or someone else coming back in. This is a good thing. Sounds like your router is caching your private IP addresses.

Assuming you wireless is open, which is the only way this can normally happen you must NEVER run it so. Set encryption immediately. By the time you have read this someone could have sent thousands of money scam or child porn emails from your connection. If traced, it is your door the police will break down (literally) and ALL your equipment they will confiscate.
