The best thing to do in Venice is walk. It is an amazing city, with amazing little areas to discover, and some interesting shopping. There is also a place, over the bridge from the train station and down a few streets where young people go drinking and hanging out at night. I can't find my Venice map, or I'd give you the square... I want to say Campo Del Frari. I love Venice and am totally jealous you are going. Have fun!

pay pay pay pay....
sprent a lot of money
venice is the example of the expensive city.
expensive 4 eating
for shopping
for glass, it's natural
for a trip in gondola...but a little tour is very nice and particular
in general venice is a city for the rich tourist, who sleeps in good hotels, and has a lot fo money to spent.
once i was there 5 days with the school...it's not the best trip for school groups...
in a lot of restaurants, you can pay a pizza and pasta 10,12 euro...an this restaurants don' t give you an idea of 5 stars restaurants...it's common in others parts of italy( i live in rome) you can pay a pizza margherita or spaghettifrom 5 to 7-8 euro but in general the cost is the half respect venice!
beyond this problem, why don' t you go to murano (a little island in the lagoon) to admire the creation of glass...it's very interesting...
the last information:i advice you to pick in the luggage a pair of boots because some days in the centre of venice there is the "acqua alta", tath is the water of sea raises and overflows the sqares with a level of VERY CLEAN water (20-30cm)
above all it's beautiful, donth think after this description taha venice is an ugly city...

bye ciao ciao...vote 4 me!

Combining your inevitable walking with bargain shopping. Venetians can be downright rude, and they have little patience for Americans with shopping savvy. One of our relatives was told to "Get out!" by an irate shop owner when she spotted a supposed designer-made handbag had a "Made in China" sticker inside. She showed it to my wife and was going to buy two of them despite the fact it was obviously counterfeit. When the shop owner saw her showing the tag, he ordered them out of the store. There are bargains, though.

Also, the glass blowers of Murano are worth visiting, but beware of the "free tours" of their factory showrooms.....designed to persuade you into buying very expensive items.

People watching is my favorite activity in this city.
