i would like to find a manufacturer to take ready made clothing and customize it with our name and tages. Or find a manufacturer to take our designs and make our clothing.

we are looking for sweat shirts, hoodies, sweat pants, and then eventually shirts (men and womens), Possibly our own line of denim jeans. All would need to have our name on the tags.

The fashion industry, as you can well imagine, is a very competitive one. To succeed takes knowledge, patience, talent and a bit of luck. As far as the knowledge bit goes, I found some sources that will assist you further.

Associations may be a good avenue to explore. These organizations will address many of the thoughts, questions and concerns you'll inevitably have about the clothing industry as well as many you haven't anticipated yet. See the source box for some relevant links.

There's nothing quite like research – the more you know about the clothing industry, the better. There are plenty of free informational resources out there. Check the source box for links to articles.

Also, here are some book titles that may interest you:

* The Business of Fashion: Designing, Manufacturing, and Marketing by Leslie Davis Burns
* Fashion for Profit (Revised Edition with Retail Chapter) by Frances Harder
* The Fashion Designer Survival Guide: An Insider's Look at Starting and Running Your Own Fashion Business by Mary Gehlhar

Hope that helps! I wish you much success & happiness in all your ventures!

Hi,

My family is in fashion and I must warn you, this is such a competitive business that my parents are trying to convince me not to be in this industry.

If you must, I have some great advice for you. Fashion is about branding. If you associate yourself with high powered designers or celebrities, you're in good shape. In order to do this, I would build up a celebrity's name and market that instead of starting your own. This way, your success possibility jumps a good 500%.

You should recruit a COO and VP Marketing with experience in fashion and a good designer to work with. My parents built a name such that we commonly deny to sell to stores if they dont live to our standards.

Feel free to contact me and I'll help you out! mah10538@yahoo
