I suppose ignorance is bliss but I would suggest an education will be more beneficial.
The astounding thing you will discover is that all those exciting new thoughts and plans you come up with has already been thought, planned and executed many times over the past 3000 years with various degrees of success.
You will actually discover except for our toys (basic technology that is nearly 100 years old) there is really nothing new that mankind hasn't already dealt with before.
Sorry, obviously you are very very young.
Incidentally, the noble savage is a myth.

The past is what makes people who they are today. Things learned in the past paved the way for things learned now and things learned in the future. If children, or ANYONE for that matter had no understanding of the past then they are clueless for the future. We also learned from the mistakes those who have come before us have learned. If we didn't learn from them, history would most definitely repeat themselves and i think we as a people have come to far in development to start back at zero. That said, you can still teach your kids the importance of distinguishing between their mistakes and somebody Else's mistakes. For example, if our first attempt to go to space failed, and we had taught our children to learn from that mistake, we wouldn't have what we have today. History is more for guideline purposes, not a rulebook.

Bad thing have happened because people haven't payed attention to history. For example: Hitler stupidly invaded Russia in the winter..... Russia becomes pretty much arctic in the winter, Germany lost millions of men that were not used to the freezing cold temps and died. If Hitler read about Napoleon doing the exact same thing he probably would have waited untill summer and had a better chance of winning.

Hmmmmmm - I disagree - just as an example take Plato, Aristotle, Socrates - I sure have learnt a lot from those guys with the added bonus of freedom to question what they believed to be the truth.

(Sigh) Spoken like a prize fool.
So I guess we should stop teaching kids about Abe Lincoln, and the pyramids, or Sacajawea... They don't need to know about the struggles of man, and their triumphs; let's throw them out there in the real world to fail on their own.

The past keeps repeating itself if we do not learn from it the past will continue to repeat itself. This doesn't necessarily make someone narrow minded. To think like this is narrow minded.

And just what do you propose the young folks use to formulate "their own thoughts"? Lacking experience and a knowledge of history, it is impossible for them to know whether an idea that just pops into their head is useful or not. I don't mean to insult anyone, but this post was just plain silly.

I only tell my kids stories from my childhood and it's usually the funny ones I tell them. The only think i try to instill in my boys is to stop and think before you do something make sure you are choosing to do the right thing.

it is my personal belief that children of the Late 20th and 21st century begin there education too early and too extensively. my parents kept me out of kindergarten till i was seven and i have the third highest GPA in my graduating class. So let them be kids, and don't worry so much. In time they will become what Jesus made them to be.

If we did that, society would never progress...Mankind would just keep making the same mistakes over & over again, generation after generation.
