I'm particularly interested in truckers who get a fair amount of home time, not just those who are on the road all the time.

If you want to be local to where you live, you would probably end up getting paid hourly. Most require a CDL A or B, and been through some kind of truck driving program. You could also go regional and most get paid by the mile.

Most truckers start in the range of $30,000 to $40,000.
