Brandon B gave you some of the worst advice ever. 2=2 poker has some of the best books available in my opinion. Poker is about 25 percent luck and 75 percent skill. If you wanna get really technical, theory and practice of poker by ed miller and david sklansky is great. The theory of poker is a must read also... and psychology of poker. But hey... you could just try and get lucky.

For limit holdem as a beginer, read small stakes holdem by David Sklansky and Ed Miller
For No Limit holdem as a beginer i would probably start with Phil Gordon's little green book
