If a menstrual period is a week or more late in a woman who usually has regular menstrual periods, she may be pregnant. Sometimes a woman may guess she is pregnant because she has typical symptoms. They include enlarged and tender breasts, nausea with occasional vomiting, a need to urinate frequently, unusual fatigue, and changes in appetite.

When a menstrual period is late, a woman may wish to use a home pregnancy test to determine whether she is pregnant. Home pregnancy tests detect human chorionic gonadotropin (HCG) in the urine. Human chorionic gonadotropin is a hormone produced by the placenta. Results of home pregnancy tests are accurate about 97% of the time. If results are negative but the woman still suspects she is pregnant, she should repeat the home pregnancy test a few days later. The first test may have been performed too early (before the next menstrual period is expected to start). If results are positive, the woman should contact her doctor, who may perform another pregnancy test to confirm the results.

If you have had intercourse or intimate genital contact within the last several months, you could be pregnant. The chances rise dramatically if you are not using birth control, but it is also possible to get pregnant even if you are using birth control, especially if you are not using it regularly or exactly as prescribed.

The most common symptom of pregnancy is a missed period. Other pregnancy symptoms include breast tenderness, bloating and nausea. Symptoms are not reliable for diagnosing pregnancy, however, because many pregnancy symptoms are also premenstrual symptoms.

Then chance of getting pregnant in any one cycle is 20%. That means that if you have had unprotected intercourse around the time of ovulation, there is a 20% chance that you are pregnant. It is also possible to be pregnant even if you are using birth control. It is rare if you are using a medically approved form of birth control, but it becomes more likely if you don't always use your method every single time, or take your birth control pills every single day. Withdrawal (the pull out method) is a very unreliable form of birth control. If that is your choice of birth control, your chance of pregnancy rises dramatically.

Remember pregnancy tests will not be accurate before the day that you expect to get your period.

You should take the test ASAP. Better safe than sorry. It's about $20 for an OTC and at the doctors office you just pay the co-pay.

Symptoms:

Swollen/Tender breasts
Fatigue
Morning Sickness
General Nausea
Back pain
Headaches
Frequent Urination
Darkening of the Areola
Food Cravings
Increased Sensitivity to smell
Abdominal bloating
Constipation
Heartburn
Moodswings
Vaginal Discharge (without itching or burning)

some women experience all of these, some none.

Good luck

if you think you are pregnant, looking at the symptoms will only make you worry more. get a test, they are only like 10 dollars, or 1 dollar at the dollar store. Take atleast 2 home pregnancy tests and see what they say, if they result in a positive test or atleast one does go see a doctor and take a test there. Good Luck!

A test can tell you as soon as the day your period is late. You can get a free test at many medical clinics. At the store, you can buy one for around $5. Store brand tests are as accurate as the fancy name brand ones.

The test is actually pretty cheap, but if your doctor bulk bills get him/her to do it for you ;) The symptoms are different for everyone, but I think the test would be the best way to go. Don't just leave it.
