Have you tried opening it yourself? Put the music CD in, then double click on My Computer, and double click on your D drive. If that doesn't do anything, right click on the D drive, and select Open With... then choose the program that you usually play your music with (such as Windows Media Player or Dell Jukebox).

My guess is you might have something F'd up like a corrupt program. i would try sticking your windows xp cd in the drive and see if it boots up when you reboot the computer. that will tell you if the Drive works. "but dont reinstall windows!" if that fails then your drive is bad. if that works then you might consider reinstalling the DVD drivers or even your music program that your trying to use.

Your not alone. The best thing to do is autorun them yourself. One of the newer updates caused problems with some people's auto-run feature.

Maybe its only a DVD/RW and not a DVD/CD/RW.
