what is the differnece between have and had

Have is present tense and had is past tense. 'I have something' means that you are in posession of it right now, while had means that you did posess it at one point and probably no longer do. This wouldn't apply if you say something like 'I had a great idea', because it isn't refering to the posession of the idea, but to the event of thinking of it. Hope this was the have and had you were talking about.

The difference between have and had is easy to see if you simply dig deep enough into the inner meanings. Have is present tense as in you have something. Had is in past tense as in you had something but than ever so suddenly you let it quickly slip away.

That's simple! Have is a present tense and had is the opposite. Eg. I have a blue pen (which means u have the pen currently in ur hand). If u say, I had a blue pen (it means u had it once/before but not anymore). Got it?

For the auxiliary verb: have is perfect tense (an action that has been completed e.g. I have gone) and usually had is pluperfect tense (an action that was completed in reference to past time, e.g. By the time I woke up my breakfast had been made)
