2x/4 + 3x/4 = 10
(2x + 3x) = 10(4)
5x = 40
x = 8

Ok, I'll bite. First multiply everything by the common denominator, which is 4. Then you get 2x + 3x = 40
so 5x = 40
so x = 40/5 = 8.
Check::
(8/2) + (3x8)/4 = 4 + (24/4) = 4 + 6 = 10
