I'm writing a novel set in the Victorian era. It's about a prostitute who falls in love with the inspector who had rescued her from a suicide attempt. The problem is, I can't figure out how she could end up falling in love with a man. The only fact I am aware of about a prostitute is that they are usually man-haters. But what else of their character? Are they all untrustworthy, unsensitive, loud, dishonest and such? (I'm sorry, but that was how this one prostitute I had once encountered acted like...but I KNOW not all are like her, that's why I'm asking for help). Or can they be sensitive, kind, and . . .trustworthy? But I'm sure most all of them don't trust other people. Anyways, my point is, tell me about how a prostitute's character might me.

Also, is it possible for a prostitute to fall in love? I mean, they've been treated so bad by men and all.....if they CAN fall in love, how?

Prostitudes are human too, you know. They can fall in love too. Many have children to support.

Man hating attitude is learned behavior after one adopts this trade. Why does one become a prostitude? Combinations of things:
1. loves money
2. loves power
3. has a family to feed.
4. Likes sex.
5. Has a drug habit.
6. Has no skills that can pay like this trade.

Are you from planet earth? Prostitutes are Man-Haters? Did you watch the movie," Monster" once to often? Some of these people might hate men while some love men. There is actually a Union for prostitutes in Nevada. These woman take their job very serious. Why don't you hire a Mistress of Night, and ask these questions plus get a load off your mind.

Huh? are not prostitutes PEOPLE? Of course they can be sensitive, kind, trustworthy and fall in love. The question should be why are they a prostitute? kidnapped, forced into the business, on drugs, from a very dysfunctional family, can't seem to make ends meet no matter what- I tell you what - you'd get your best answers from a prostitute. why don't you go ask one.

They probably might fall in love if the man is quite different and understanding, no matter what the prostitute's history is.

People tend to have their own circle to whom they are trustworthy and sensitive, and all the rest, whom they hate and cheat. It is kinda a measure of civilaztion how wide that close circle is, and how people treat "others".

Make sure the inspector refuses to sleep with her untill well into relationship. This would set him apart in her eyes, and leads him into her "close circle".
