to be honest I think you're right. most people don't stop to think that prejudice has nothing to do with ethnicity. any time you judge a person based off of whatever that is not specific to them is showing prejudice.
i've noticed that a majority of the population in the U.S. is "fat" and i've also noticed that they tend to get picked on the most. think back to your school days, just about everyone picked on the "fat kid." there is also the stigma that it's the person's own fault for allowing themselves to get that way.
simple fact is that everyone could probably eat better and get more exercise. there are also different factors in why/how people gain weight. there's the ones everyone thinks about, diet and exercise, but there's also genetics and hormones that help.
i think the reason is because of the media. i'm sorry but it's true. you look at models and movie stars and for the most part they're all skinny and "prefect" people seem to forget though that the pictures tend to get "cleaned" up before the general public sees them. i think the other reason is because people are scared that it could be them. you can't control you're skin color or who you're family is, but you do have some say in you're weight. (it's just that in some cases people don't have as much say as others think)

I don't know if this prejudice is greater than other prejudices, but it certainly is pervasive! It is always open season when it comes to fat jokes. But try telling a joke against any ethnic group or race other than WASPS and see what happens.

I am not overweight either but people who judge people because their bodies don't meet the societies criteria of what they think is acceptable, need to get on a boat and go to Ethiopia where everyone is skinny. Those of us who accept people for who they are can only benefit by being in our beautiful country with the people that belong here. Fat is a nasty word, I choose to word it as jolly.
