OK first off all these answers do have some insight in them. Chevy did this way back in 1990 on there trucks. It is part of the limited slip. There theroy behind it was so you did not break anything. Forward one rear and one front will spin reverse it is oposite in 4 hi. 4 low the switchs on the front end and rear end lock it to possy all 4 will spin then.

I don't know why the uninformed feel so compelled to "answer" these questions. However, no, you do not have a problem with your truck. Regardless of whether or not the transfer case is in 4hi or 4lo, only one front and one rear wheel is guaranteed to spin. Now, if you have a rear locking diff, (RPO G80) then both rear wheels will lock together until they reach about 20 mph. And no, this unit is not a posi. As for the front wheels, there was no locker or posi available from the factory, and all 4x4's received an open diff. There are only 2 options available for the 9.25" IFS if you want true 4 wheel drive. Either the Eaton E-locker, or ARB Air Locker. I have the Eaton, and it works like a champ. No clue where these other guys are coming from....rotate 1 1/2 times before the front engages??? Should all spin in all gears??? dodge man, there isn't an LS available due to how the right side axle is engaged.......These are not electric or electronic hubs, the front axle is engaged / disengaged by a sliding collar on the right hand axle......at least 1diputs is on the right track.

Ok with the new electronic hubs you have to move unless the teeth of the hubs are perfectly in line when you engage 4 wheel drive. Which means if you are stuck, unless the truck can move a few inches the splines will not line up and the tires will not spin. I am sure on your stock truck that it has an open differential and that only one tire in front has to spin in 4x4, both can if there is equal traction , but only one has to. Easiest way to check, go to a parking lot, put the truck in 4x4, and SLOWLY make a hard right or left hand turn. If the steering wheel moves back and forth in your hands the 4x4 is working. Don't forget to disengage 4x4 before driving down the road!

Yes and no. Each axl is connected to a differential. This differential will slip to allow the vehicle to turn as in a turn the outside wheels need to turn at a faster speed than the inside wheels. Unfortunately a limited slip differential will slip when you don't want it to. The wheels with the least traction seem to get all of the power. I have seen a 4 wheel drive stuck with the left front wheel and the right rear wheel off the ground. The wheels that were off the ground were getting all of the power. The Chevrolet Silverado can be purchased with the Eaton locking differential. When the computer detects wheel spin, the differential will automaticlly lock giving equal power to both wheels. This is not the same as traction control. Remember the example of the 4X4 above. I have seen a 2 wheel drive Silverado with the Eaton diferential make it past the same obstical that trapped the 4X4.

Just because its a 4X4 doesn't mean ALL 4 tires will spin at the same time. You have spools(100% off road) posi's , limited slip, and some older models you only had one tire in the back and one in the front that would spin.
