His step-father with all his abuse, was the first one to influence him. He was an aspiring painter to begin with, then he went to War I and got bitter, then tried his hand at the artist thing and was starving and went into a tangent to get power and money. He was a very sick man and frustrated by his predicament as a poor white trash man, he did not like being poor, and he hungered for recognition and got it on the backs of all those people any which way and loose. that was able to reach the top by blood shed. Similar to Napolean, and Genghis Kahn but he was mongolian.
Poverty and hunger can change you, it can drive you crazy, and he did not have far to go anyway.

Hitler's idol had always been Otto von Bismarck. It was Bismarck who made Germany a great nation at one time, and Hitler wanted to accomplish the same. In fact, Hitler's villa and offices are decorated with Bismarck's bust, statue and portraits. He even named Germany's biggest battleship in World War II as The Bismarck.

That is a tough one. I would have to say Germany did. There was anti-Semitism throughout the country and the poor, like Hitler, were looking for a scapegoat.

He saw Bismarck (in the late 1800's) as the height of recent German glory (The Second Reich), so he believed he could resurrect that glory in his Third Reich. Unfortunately he was completely evil.

Negative childhood experiences. His mother was being cared for by a Jewish doctor at the time of her death (though irrelevant to me..) It is said they he took this very much to heart and it inspired some of his hatred.

It's interesting how people need to add their personal opinions on historical figures when they answer questions, as if anyone who appreciates historical thought actually thinks you know what the hell you're talking about.
Just an observation about ALL opinions on historical figures.
