Hi, i seemed to have locked the region code to my powerDVD 6. 0 as i used different region DVD's more then five times. (unfortunately, i did not realise that once you change it 5 times, it becomes permanent, personally i think they should have giving a goddam warning at the last change e.g. ARE YOU SURE YOU WANT TO PLAY THIS DVD AS THIS WILL BE ONLY REGION DVD'S YOU CAN WATCH FOR THE REST OF YOUR LIFE!)
I have tried contacted the web-sites e.g. cyberlink and Philips but all they can say is 'it is permanent' so i was wondering if you lovely people could be a bit more helpful and offer me any help or solutions. I just want my DVD player unlocked so that i can watch Region 2 DVD's, rather than the ONE Region 1 DVD i own!
This whole palavas gotten me a bit frustrated so i would appreciate your help!
Also, i understand that a lot of people are very advanced with computer technology, and i'm probably not at the same stage at you, so easy clear step instructions would be helpful

Hi, i have tried using DVD region free and it simply freezes and does not do anything!

Marc A, seems as the region code has locked itself to the DVD drive, because the same error occurs with any program i use to watch the DVD's! Any further suggestions? Can't believe they don't give stupid people more urgent warnings lol!

Thanks everyone!

I can't fully answer this till I know more details. I have never really been a fan of PowerDVD for this very reason. I am wondering however if it changed the region code in the settings of the PowerDVD software ONLY. I find it hard to believe that the settings were permanently changed for the DVD drive itself.

Personally I would try uninstalling PowerDVD, remove any trace remnants of the program, and then simply use Windows Media Player or any other basic media player that has DVD player, and control capability.

If Windows Media Player has changed the Region code settings as well, then your problems are deeper. Let us know further and we'll take it from there. Best of luck.

Further info....It does definitely sound like the code is locked into the drivers of the drive itself. If I were you I think I would first begin by going into Control Panel/System/Hardware/Device Manager. Look in the list of components for your DVD player. Right click on it and hit "uninstall" Don't be alarmed this will simply remove the drivers for the player temporarily till the system reboots. Upon rebooting, Windows will automatically reinstall the drivers for the drive. There is a slight chance that this may bring the drive back to the status it was when you bought it. If this does NOT solve the problem I would then try what is called a "firmware upgrade" This process essentially flashes the internal memory of the drive and reinstalls the software that it needs to initialize itself each time it starts up. This is sometimes a tricky process, but the instructions are usually straight-forward and obtainable from your vendors website.

And.....final solution, purchase a new DVD burner. Their lifespan is usually no more than 18 months anyway, and since their purchase price is so cheap compared to five years ago, this might be your best option if all of the above does NOT work for you.

Good luck and take care.

You need a program called DVD region free

You should be able to locate it on a good torrent site, or maybe using a p2p network such as emule
