I have Honda Civic 2005 Si. Where can I buy an engine block heater in Toronto? Do I really need one?

In Toronto, your dealer can install one, Canadian Tire, Speedy, Midas, pretty much any service garage. The dipstick heaters aren't enough for Canadian winters, take it from me, I tried one.

Gas engine no Diesel engine yes. If you get the diesel you will also need to add anti gel additives to your fuel or you will have problems. Be a little realistic here. Most of the times the temperature will be in the teens during the winter. However there are several nights where the overnight temperature can go below zero. Forget trying to start a diesel without a block heater when it it so cold. It may or may not start. If it does start it will take lots of effort. I live in Upper Muchigan where the climate is very similar to what you have in Vermont in the winter. I know what it is like to start an engine when the temperature is -0F (-18C).

I think block heaters are great and they come in real handy. You should be able to buy one at any auto parts store like Napa. I've never heard about dipstick heaters, they sound like junk. I would stick with a block heater you'll definitely appreciate it to have one, they make a big difference in cold weather.
