A novel is a book, but a book isn't necessarily a novel. It can be a book of verse, of research, etc. A novel tells a story.

A novel is a fictional prose narrative of considerable length, typically having a plot that is unfolded by the actions, speech, and thoughts of the characters.

A book is a set of written, printed, or blank pages fastened along one side and encased between protective covers.
