red yellow and orange are warm colors, blue green and purple are cool colors, you should try using warm colors in you art to bring out objects or draw attention to them and vice versa with cool colors

Your photographer may be right warm colors go well with your skin...but I grant you cool colors go well too... it all depends on what amount of light the colors have. Dark colors don´t suit dark skins...light colors don´t suit light skin...
The classification of colors on warm vs. cool is usless for beauty.
The more important color in beauty is your skin´s...and contrast is everything...
