Hi everyone, I was wondering if anyone can answer to my question.
If I use my college wireless to download large files like moves, videos and music, can school computer techs find that out and determine who is doing that? We also need to log in on the wireless net work using our student ID.
Thanx for your info.

Your actions are most likely logged, this is why you are required to log in. This is a must as the student bears the responsibility, not the school, for their actions while online. The accountability for illegal activity.

To answer your question: It is likely that downloading movies would be an allowed activity as long as it was done legally. If it is an illegal download, this is where the school's logging of your actions would be used. As for "clogging the bandwidth"....The school is likely also Throttling your speed so that others do not suffer. You would likely be warned about your activity if there was an issue with what you were doing....if in doubt, ask the IT help desk.

yeah they can easily

they find that someone has by the internet history. then they check about the time it was downloaded then they see who logged on at the time so they have a list of student ID's who were online. then they check those ID's internet history and if it was you then they know. so yeah they can find you it is just process that will take about 3 hours. because of all the students online at any givin time.

if you need to log in to the network using your student ID, then they CAN trace your activity back to you. Also, if you download copyrighted materials (movies, music) you can be sued or arrested.

Yes, if you login with a student ID they could definitely find out that it's you. Otherwise about all they can find out is your mac address.
