All it will do is cause inflation. It will aslo cause buisness owners to have to cut people. People who make the minimum wage earn the minimum. They can complain all they want about how they deserve more money and they need more money, but anyone who makes the minimum wage it is their fault and maybe they hsould work on getting better jobs and leave those jobs for teens, i will need one in a couple of years

The minimum wage was raised because most people do not have any knowledge of basic economics; and politicians need to be re-elected..........

Because it won't cause the problems as you describe. It's been proven time and time again. Minimum wage is far higher in many places and it's going extremely well. It won't cause those problems like you may think. Minimum wage gives workers the rights that they deserve. If they're happy then they will spend. It will decrease the gap between the rich and the poor. This makes times seem better. If times are good people will spend. Also, people have a right to receive a certain amount for labor. Paying any less than a certain amount is simply unacceptable. People have to live and there needs to be standards. Also, the more a business has to pay, the more they are going to ensure that the best workers are hired. This will not only force businesses to maximize their success, but it will encourage young students to stay in school and get jobs that are well above minimum wage so that they don't have to worry about the competition of minimum wage jobs. This will in return create a higher educated society that will make greater contributions to the improvement of the world.

Currently, the minimum wage is lower than the market wage in most places in America. This is proved by McDonald's paying $7.00 an hour in places like Tennessee. So raising the minimum wage modestly will have little or no effect on inflation. Minimum wage is about class warfare. As the real wages of minimum wage workers has declined over the last decade due to inflation, the rise of the income of CEO's has been astronomical. Also most businesses demand for labor is more steady than you would expect. Most have gotten rid of as many workers as they can, bodies will still be needed in service industries like hotels, restaurants etc. Hypothetically, even if 5% of minimum wage workers would lose their jobs, the increase in the minimum wage is over 25%. So if you were an astute gambler what would you choose? Smart money says even a 5% decline in min wage workers would be a great bet if the wages of 95% would go up some 25%.

I never thought that a minimum wage job was suppose to be a person career from now on, most people that have a brain use the minimum pay jobs as a stepping stone for something better in life, maybe like get a education , But their are certain congress and senators that think different if all a person has is a minimum wage job from now on then he or she deserve the low pay because they certainly don't have any ambition. Maybe these people need to get some sort of trade or education then they wont have to worry about the wages of their meaningless jobs like minimum wage Job.

Minimum wage needs to be adjusted to compensate for inflation, not the other way around. Your dollar of a year ago probably just buys ninety cents of goods today because of rising prices. You forget to take into account that the increase in prices are caused by a myriad of factors, for example rise in oil prices, increased cost of medical expenses, higher taxes, rising cost of education...and as long as we are on the topic of education, I hope that you are taking your studies seriously. The reason why some cannot move up the economic ladder is because they do not have the resources to improve their lot. I hope you have loving parents to support your studies, because you mentioned you will need a job in a few years; therefore I get it you are currently not employed. Getting an education does not necessarily mean you will be a success, but it sure helps.

Also, businesses have become greedy. The reason why jobs have become scarce is not because there aren't any, but because businesses have been outsourcing jobs to countries where labor cost is cheap. Increased profits mean fat bonuses for the people at the top. Explain to me why one person dropped by a company like Home Depot as their president for causing the company to lose money still managed to get in excess of $400 million in severance pay, money that could have been re-invested by the company to create more jobs...but instead they build factories, warehouses and plants in foreign countries so they can squeeze every dollar of profit from goods they manufacture.. and oh, just so you know, I have a good paying job that gave me a house, sends my son to a private school and affords me the luxury of being able to buy the basic necessities of life and then some.Only because I had the education that qualified me for the job I currently hold.

Maybe you need to get a lower paying job!! Think about how the person making minimum wage today is forced to live. An increase is deserved, they always have the jobs that opinionated people like you refuse to take!!

I am a teen. I can afford to work on minimum wage. I have a car, insurance that I have to pay on. I also need money to go to college. My parents cant afford college and my scholarships arent enough. I also have to find an apartment that I can afford because my college doesn't have dorms that I can afford. I know raising minimum wage will cause inflation. But think about teens who need a higher paying job because their bosses are jerks and wont do anything about it!

I see you have bought into the propaganda. How do you know raising the minimum wage will cause inflation and business owners to cut positions? Have you done your own research on this, or are you just buying into what you are being told? The minimum wage has been raised before and the World is still spinning.

Because we live in a socialist country, and in a socialist country the people believe that the government knows what is best for the people. Individuals do not know what is best for themselves. Therefore the government decides what the minimum wage should be. At this time the government believes that the minimum wage should be raised.

Working people are actually trying to pay bills working full time, on minimum wage work. A few extra bucks a week would make a very big difference in many people's life. They might even be able to afford meat once a week.
