Most of the time, I whisper to myself:
"Just breathe..."
I started doing that after watching Ever After. Drew Barrymore was just about to walk into a huge ball and she was so nervous and she just said that to herself quietly.
I thought that was a good idea so I tried it... It has never failed me to this day.
I think it works because it reminds me that I need to calm down. I need to let go of my insecurities and just... go with the flow, so to speak :)
I also smoke, write, sleep, have long showers, talk to my friends, go for long drives, cry, read...

take some deep breaths and try to separate myself from the situation. I try to always remember that no matter what bad thing is going on that it will soon be over and things will be back to normal.
