I am 36 weeks 4 days and at my 36 week check up, my doctor said I was 2 cm dialited and 75% effaced. He made the comment that I am 'induceable' This is my 2nd pregnancy. I was induced with my daughter at 41 weeks. I know that 37 weeks is concidered full term, and taking into concideration, what my doctor said, and that this has been a noncomplicated pregnancy, if I ask him to induce me this weekend (I will be 37 weeks and 3 days then) what are the chances he will say yes? I know all doctors all different, and I know all about how they say inducing is more painful, and there is a chance of a c-section. I am not looking for answers telling me to carry the baby to 40 weeks and let nature take its course. Thanks.........

I'm 36 weeks and at my last visit, my Dr. and I discussed inducing. He wasn't ready to jump at it and preferred to wait it out a little and at least go to about 38 weeks. Every situation is different though and all Dr.'s have their ways of doing things. If you want to be induced then you should discuss it with your Dr. and if it's safe for you to do so then I don't see why he wouldn't. Good luck!

I had 2 horrible pregnancies and 2 c-sections...So I probably have an idea of what you are going through because I went through just about everything....I know it is so tough in the last month. You are so tired and uncomfortable and you just want it to end but there are so many more risks when you get induced that it is just not worth it. Here are some of the issues:

1) The pain is worse because the drugs they give you increase the intensity of the contractions.
2) The chance of c-section is much greater because if the baby has not come out on it's own, then either your body or the baby is not really ready. So there is a greater chance that you will end up not being able to hae the baby naturally. It took me 7 months to recover from my last c-section. They hit a nerve and I have pain down my leg still to this day and it has been 13 months. I always thought (before I had a baby) that it would be easier to have a c-section than laboring but I ended up laboring for 17 hours with the first and 9 for the second and it was gruelling to recover the second time.
3) My second child came two weeks early and she was smaller and weaker than my son who came on time. She ended up jaundice and was pretty tiny when she went home. I had wished for weeks for the pregnancy to end early and then I felt so guilty because I felt like I caused it in some way (even though obviously I had not). I sincerely wished when we were at the hospital that she had "cooked" a couple more weeks...

If you ask your doctor there is a chance...I would say 10% that your doctor will do it if there is no medical reason. But I would sincerely encourage you for your sake and the baby's sake to hang in there.

It sounds like you are progressing along and may go early anyway.

I wish you the very best with the new baby!

ABSOLUTELY AVOID INDUCTION!!!! You increase your risk of c-section.... WHEN YOUR BABY IS READY S/HE WILL COME! Average pregnancies with prior birth are 40 weeks 3 days!! You sound so close why not wait! You will probably be early anyway!

I was induced at 41 weeks I had a long & painful labor and pushed a long time. Then I had a c-section! After knowing what I know nowI blame the doctors & hospital for not better informing me about the risks that come with induction, epidural, amniotomy & c-section....

Read this book or at least the chapter on induction.... The Thinking Woman's Guide to at Better Birth by Henci Goer!!! You will be very surprised, to say the least . I think my reaction was more shock & horror!

I DO NOT want to scare you, just be educated on all your decisions...The Doctors want you to think that induction, epidurals & c-section are no big deal, BUT THEY ARE!!!

Please do not ask to be induced this soon - for your baby's sake. Every day s/he remains in utero is time for his/her lungs to finish developing and for him/her to gain weight so s/he can thrive and better regulate his/her body temperature after birth.

Unfortunately, 2cm dilated and 75% effaced can mean you're already heading into labor, or can mean nothing at all...and being induced doesn't guarantee an easy delivery based on those stats alone. Do your homework and know the risks of being induced - the C-section rate is higher than you might think.

All that said, if you still intend to ask, I've never heard of a doctor inducing labor over a weekend - they like their weekends off too! Most inductions seem to be scheduled on Tuesdays, for some reason.

Sorry this isn't the answer you wanted to hear. Best of luck to you, and congratulations on your new baby!

I am 31 weeks and my doctor said that I have the option to be induced because my husband may be sent overseas right around my due date. My doctor wont induce before 39 weeks unless it is absolutely necessary.

It doesnt hurt to ask. I was so uncomfortable I asked at 37 wks but my doctor wouldnt induce until 38 1/2 wks. We set the date that appointment.

i would say if you are 2cm and 75% dont even worry about asking the doctor to induce you. you'll probably be in labor by this weekend anyway. i would guess anyhow the Dr would say no, but its true that all Dr's are different. no matter what happens heres wishing you an easy labor and a healthy baby!

If it's bothersome to you then you can always ask and they could see about getting you in. I do know that they can schedule you at 37 weeks but you run a chance of being rejected as close to an hour before you are supposed to go in if it gets busy at the hospital. Good luck!!

Well, if he said "induceable", sounds to me like he is open to the idea, perhaps even subtly suggesting it. Chances are most likey Yes.

you can ask to be induced and your doctor may say yes. have you tried nipple stimulation, or sex to put you in labor. i hope the doctor does what you want, but most doctors want to wait. GOOD LUCK!
