Does anyone know how to get the "rat" smell out of my male rats' hammocks and bedding?

I wash their bedding in the washing machine each week, but can never get the smell out completely.

I also use cloth for bedding for my rats. After I put the bedding through a complete wash cycle with hot water and a hypoallergenic baby liquid laundry detergent, I put the "Ratty rags" through an extra rinse cycle with a cup of white vinegar. It doesn't completely eliminate the smell of male rat, but it sure cuts down the smell.

Please do not use Frebreze, or Bounce, or anything with a strong smell that is suppose to eliminate smells as these are dangerous for rats.

Wash the rats with diluted soap and warm water every once in a while, you can wash the hammocks in a washing machine, using wood chips covers up some of the smells if you use it as bedding, although it is slightly worse for the rats' health, Unfortunately, you can't completely cover it up beause the more you try to cover it up the more the rats will try to mark their territory (also, female rats stink less if you want to get those next time)

Soak in white vinegar for a few hours before washing the regular way.
