He means they share the following principle: 1- Both call for human freedom and equality. 2- Both believe in God. 3- Both believe in free enterprise system as opposed to communism 4- Both respect the family system as a basic unit of the society. 5- Both appreciate high values like being truthful and never cheat. The list can go on. However there are many points where Islam and America are at odds.

Obama tends to lie. I noticed that in the election, and I am a Democrat. I don't think that we share the same ideas of tolerance and dignity of all human beings. What a sack of (kittens). He is trying to be a diplomat, that is all. Surely he does not actually believe that. I don't think that he is that dumb. I agree with Natassia, above.
