Compatible fish with goldfish are, dojos, apple snails, rubbernose plecos, bristlenose plecos, hillstream loach and dwarf otocinclus. If any or all of your comets are longer than 3 inches, it's time to think about getting a larger tank, especially in light of adding a pleco.

I have raised goldfish and koi exclusively for almost 20 years.

Well just remember, goldfish can get very big (up to 12 inches). Plecos can get big, although dwarves not as much... The main thing I would be concerned with is the fact that goldfish are coldwater fish and plecos are more tropical, so they may have different temperature requirements. And remember, they need more than just a little algae on the side of the tank. You will probably need to buy algae wafers!

No you can't. In fact 3 goldfish (comets) shouldn't be kept in a 33 gallon tank. Goldfish will easily grow 12+ inches and require at least a 55 gallon tank per fish as adults.

FYI, goldfish should live 25+ years in the proper environment.

No. Goldfish are coldwater and plecos are tropical. So one or the other is going to suffer if kept together. There is no such thing as a "dwarf pleco" anyway. There are plecos that don't grow large, but no such fish as a dwarf pleco.

Gosh, what is it about people wanting to mix tropical fish and goldfish today?
