After the murder of Martin Luther King in April of 1968 and the rise of militancy within SNCC (with the rise of Stokley Charmichael as leader) the desire for peaceful resolution of black problems began to drift. Since the death of MLK there has not been an effective black civil rights leader. Some have aspired to that position but their private live's have gotten in the way. Jesse Jackson would LOVE to have been the next MLK but his extra-marital affairs, illigitimate children, racist comments against Jews, and repeated support for ridiculous causes has damaged his credibility. Louis Farakahn is not taken seriously by any educated person. Al Sharpton's support of a lying Twana Brawley in her alleged kidnapping destroyed his reputation with educated blacks and so on and so on and so on. Today, the civil rights movement has gotten bogged down in embracing ridiculous causes like government reparations for slavery or similar nonsense issues.
