I am 32 weeks pregnant and have been on antibiotics as I had a cervical infection. I started on IV antibiotics and now out of hospital I am on Oral ones. However since leaving hospital i've found I have thrush. NOT oral. Is this caused by the medicine i'm taking? and can i use normal treatment to get rid of it while i'm pregnant?

Yes antibiotics kill r good bacteria as well as the bad. U can get thrush, yeast infections(basically similar) some people even get ill, such as colds etc. Whenever U R on antibiotics eat yogurt with active cultures, I eat it everyday and never get a yeast infection. U should eat 2 small containers a day at least, U can get them in great flavors, just make sure U read and it states active cultures. The yogurt without is useless. Also call your Doctor, he or she will give U something, since U R pregnant U must be careful, thats why I would not recommend any over the counter remedies. I am sure your Dr. will also explain that hormone imbalance causes thrush, yeast infections etc. etc. As well as stress so call ur Dr. take the yogurt use whats perscriped and rest rest rest! U and your baby will be fine, bless you both!

Are you sure you mean thrush?
Thrush (oropharyngeal candidiasis, or OPC) is a yeast infection that develops in the mouth and throat and on the tongue.
Yes, antibiotics can cause a yeast infection.
Always eat yogurt or take probiotics while taking antibiotics.

Yes it can be caused by an antibiotic. I don't know how to treat non-mouth thrush. I know the doctor can give you a prescription ointment. My son had oral thrush as a baby and the prescription didn't work, so we usedVenitian Violet and it cleared right up. You can get it at a pharmacy, but don't know how you would apply it non-orally. We just brushed some on his tounge and inside his cheeks.

Antibiotics don't necessarily cause a yeast infection (thrush is a fungal - yeast infection), but by suppressing the natural bacteria in our systems, the yeast that is already there can win and take over.

Ask your doctor about when it would be advisable to eat cultured yogurt as one way to help build back the normal balance of critters.

Quite possibly as the antibiotics knock out all the flora in your body that normally protects you from things like thrush. However, it's normally from taking high strength/multiple antibiotics, and I wouldn't expect thrush after taking them for just one day... Nonetheless get some canestan from the pharmacy. That should sort it.

Thrush IS oral. Yes, antibiotics cause thrush. So do inhalers and steroids. Call your doctor for treatment.
