He was probably being controlled by his kidnapper. A lot of these creeps tell the kids that they'll kill the parents if they try to escape or they'll go after another sibling. Or they even convince the kids that the parents know where they are and just don't care anymore. Pedophiles are very good at brainwashing little kids into believing anything they want them to believe. My heart goes out to that little boy (and his family).

Could be lots of reasons. It depends on what his kidnapper told him.
