Sounds like you have a problem not with the teaching skills of the teachers but the authority figures' rule against chew gum. Since you know the rule and choose to continue to chew the gum, you will have no excuse when you are caught and get a negative consequence (punishment).
Gum is not allowed in school for several reasons. First, it gets spit out in inappropriate places and causes problems for others. Second, it is distracting to the chewer and others in the room.
Your teachers are not stupid, just busy doing what they are paid to do, teach you information you will need later in life.

Ooooo! How clever of you! I'll bet you an even chew gum and walk at the same time.
Here's a little poem for you, courtesy of a famous newpaper columnist Ann Landers.
Bucolic Bliss
The gum-chewing student
And cud-chewing cow
Look quite alike, but they're
different somehow.
And what is the difference?
I see it all now.
It's the intelligent look
On the face of the cow.
Clever you!

They probably saw you and didn't really care. However if they suspect you of something else and can't prove it, they now have you confidently chewing gum and ready to be busted harshley with the gum chewing as a cover. Also, gum gets everywhere and damages expensive clothes and equipment from students who don't dispose of it properly.

Have you ever put your hand under a desk and felt some freshly chewed, recently placed gum? That stuff gets everywhere, and destroys the desks.
Considering how much it costs to replace all of that stuff, your teachers have a reason for the rule. It's not that they are stupid.

You chew gum in school? You're really living on the edge, aren't you! Light up a bone, and see if they notice.

Wow... maybe they see you and figure they have more important things to worry about... like getting it through your thick head that you need an education to make it through life.... the same lesson you'll learn about speeding in a car one day... we all do it... just don't ***** about it when you DO get caught. YOU know the rules. It is up to YOU to be the responsible adult and do the right thing. Chewing gum is WAAAY down on the list of important things to tackle in the classroom... trust me.

After an exhaustive study and comparison of all the evidence available it has become apparent that all of the stupidest teachers from around the country were intentionally sent to your school as part of a government conspiracy designed to keep you stupid and insure that you never rise above the socio economic level of your average captive chimp . (ask a stupid question )

Just because they don't spot you chewing gum doesn't mean they're stupid. It just means you're lucky.
