I too have known a few mormons, and, while i have liked every one of them, and they've all been extremely kind and pleasant people, I must say that I can understand how some people could be frightened of electing a Mormon for president.
Let me start out by stating that the mormons are ALL quite conservative. Both politically (most are right-wing, anti-gay-marriage, and anti-birth-control of ANY kind), and religously (Mormons think that either you believe in their religion, or you're WRONG)... Many people, myself included, find this over-whelming close-minded-ness an extreme turnoff, especially when choosing a president.
I also agree with the comment someone made earlier, the one about how the reason a Mormon wouldn't make a good president is because they do in fact live in their own little bubbles. Usually, Mormons aren't all that diversified. Many of them live in Mormon communities, and don't meet many people with different beliefs. To me, "sheltered" is NOT a quality I'd want to look for in a President.
I suppose, all in all, if a Mormon was running for president, though I wouldn't immediatly out him/her because of their religion, I would be a little bit skeptical, and definately look WAY into his/her backround and lifestyle.
hope this answer helps!
p.s. i don't want to offend anyone, so im just gonna say that i KNOW that all mormons are not like what i described above... some live very different lifestyles than what we consider a stereotypical mormon.

The Mormons are indeed a cult. They reckon theirs is the only true church on the face of the earth. They deny many of the cardinal doctrines of the historical Christian church.
I will not vote for or against Mitt Romney. Hopefully I can give some background on this. The answer to your question is given by Google video:
-Gordon Hinckley (President of the church) says that they don't have a problem telling lies to people outside the church if they don't deserve to hear the truth.
Politicians may not be noted as being honest and truthful at the outset. They start out being honest and then get changed in Washington. What happens with one who says he is not constrained to tell the truth at the beginning?

I don't know what group of people that magazine was interviewing, but they sound like they are pretty ignorant. People shouldn't be voting for a president based on religion....it should be about their view on certain issues. I don't know what religion Bush is (I'm guessing Baptist or some other Christian religion popular in the south) but he is doing a terrible job. I'm not Mormon, but I know a lot of them, and they really don't bother me. I figure almost anyone can do a better job than Bush, so why not give a Mormon a shot at office?

They don't seem to be made mormons towards their will... they don't seem to be even "made" Mormons in the event that they receive the baptism within the afterlife...even IF Mormons had been fallacious within the proxy baptism, you believe God could enable a man or woman's will to be affected? No. They nonetheless have a alternative. God may not enable their company to be taken away...individuals who do not appreciate that have to have a drawback with know-how the gospel and the way God loves us.

Hmmm......never thought about whether I would elect a mormon president. Gotta tell ya, probably not. And it's for that reason, the "bubble". You can't rule the real world when you don't know a thing about it.

The same reasons many Baptists would not like a Catholic for President. From my experience though, Mormons are much more attamant and least accepting of others religions, ideas, etc. It must be their way , or you are wrong, and any other church is definately wrong. If you don't do and believe as they do, and want you to do, the have a nice, loving and "respectable" way of sliding you out ! They can turn your own family against you if you don't abide by what they want of you. They know that that is very effective for getting you to do what they want. They have the most "loving way" of getting what they want. I can't ever believe a loving God would deal that way with his own. But than God doesn't....people do.

I think that a Mormon president would be o.k. But not all Mormons are the same; you might get a good Mormon president or a bad Mormon president.

I'm not a fan of religion in general. But I especially hate Mormons. Truthfully, I've had very little exposure to them, but that Beck dude on CNN is a Mormon and is also a REAL jack-*ss, in my view. Although, I think that Lance Armstrong may be Mormon, so who knows. Generally, tough, I say death to Mormons and death to Glynn Beck!
I will ring your door-bell and run away.

Don't they support polygamy, believe that their holy testament was read off magic tablets by a guy using magic glasses given to him by an angel out of a top hat? And that the guy refused to show anyone else the magic tablets and when was asked to read them out of the hat again read it out completely different, claiming that they had been changed as a result of the originals being compromised?
And that when they die, if the men are good enough, are given their own universe to control?
Gee, I dunno why they're not too popular; must be because mormon sounds too much like moron.

I find nothing wrong with them as people. They are nice, intellectual and down-to-earth. If I didn't vote for them it would not be because of religious reasons. I do however, not support Bush/Republicans and all of them I have met are pro-Bush/pro-war. So if that was their mind set then I would not vote for them. As people though, I find no problem being friends with them and even enoy their convos. Peace.
