I'm thinking that even though a lot of innocent Iraqis have been killed on our watch, we haven't yet caught up to the deaths purportedly caused by Hussein (we'll never know since he was only tried for 150 deaths).

However, I am concerned that Bush's troop surge plan may be twisted by our "allies" in Iraq so that many more innocent Sunnis (the moderate Islamists) will be killed by the Shiites we appear to be supporting.

The Iraqis claim that Saddam is responsible for over a million deaths. The US has killed very few. The hundreds being killed now are killed by other Iraqis.
Even if you want to claim that Americans are doing all of the killing ( which even the most ingorant knows is not the case ), it would still be far short of the deaths ordered directly, or with his approval.
Sometimes it pays to say nothing until you know what you're talking about.

1)Human rights groups consider the Halabja attack one of the gravest atrocities allegedly committed by Saddam's regime. The village of Halabja in which 5,000 people, including women and children, died.

2)Two mass graves that appear to contain the remains of up to 7,000 people killed by Saddam Hussein's government have been discovered in southern Iraq, according to an Iraqi government minister.

1) We didn't.
2) Almost all of those we did kill were Iraqi soldiers & terrorists.

Almost all Iraqi civilian deaths were inflicted by other Arabs. Even they still have a long way to go to catch up with Saddam.

Because it's the US, and in the eyes of many in the US, we can't do wrong. Often that attitude reflects lack or information about what we are doing.
