Step one - Create a new user in windows xp that is different from your logon. You must have administrator rights.

Step two - Copy and paste ALL of your directories, files, documents etc from your old user account into your new user account.

Step three - test to make sure that you have transferred every over.

Step four - delete your old user account.

Step five - right click on a file that previously activated the virus.

Step six - have a nice day because you will find that the virus is gone.

I suggest that you try to carryout system restore to a day previous to the day when there was no virus or any problems. It may be a few weeks or months back. You have to decide the date. Detailed instructions are posted at http://fixit.in/systemrestore.html
The problem is likely to be solved. Then,You insatll a standard antivirus soft ware such as Norton, AVG , Avast ( free antivirus software and Ad-aware, Ewido ( free spyware removers). You can download free softwares at
http://fixit.in/antivirus.html and http://fixit.in/spywareremover.html

Step 2: go to My Computer, copy and paste this:
C:\Documents and Settings
into the "adress" bar where it says My Computer
open up your old account (not Administrator or All Users)

repeat process in a new window, and open up your new account
copy all of the things in your old account into the new one (click, hold, drag); click OK to pop-ups

3: ignore step...
4: go into the Control Panel (given that your account is an administrator), and click "User Accounts", then click on the old account, click "delete account" (bottom of the list)
this should be done from the new account
5: right click on the file in question

i would personally recommend downloading a good antivirus software, like
http://www.avast.com/eng/download-avast-home.html
that gives you a 60-day trial so you can get rid of you virus

do you have anti virus installed on your computer.if not install one such as norton anti virus after you have installed it run a virus scan and it will pick it up and put it in quarintine so it won't harm your computer.you probably got it through an email.if so good piece of advise, don't open any emails if your not sure who sent them.just delete them.when you read emails and delete them make sure you empty the trash.you will see inbox, draft ,sent and trash.empty trash because thats where the emails you delete go.don't be too curious and open them bcause curiousity kills the cat.good luck. pete
