i moved in with my boyfriend and his roomates about a year ago. he had the smallest room (which i then shared with him) and the biggest room with its own bath belonged to sara, the only other girl in the house. last summer, sara decided she would move out soon; it was then agreed that me and my boyfriend should get her room because there were 2 of us sharing one room and both of us were paying full rent. about a month later, sara's boyfriend, chris, moved in with us and stayed with her in her room, of course. 2 weeks ago, sara moved out and chris refuses to give up that room, he has even put an extra lock on the door so no one can get in. he refuses to talk to us or compromise on the room situation. he told me that he is already in that room and is not moving, especially since i dont count as a real roommate because i'm a girl and just moved in with my boyfriend. the other roommates refuse to get involved in the fight. both him and my bf are on the lease, i'm not. what should we do?

this is relevant too- chris is military and will deploy next month for 6 months. he is thinking about moving out when he gets back. this is the first problem i've had living here and everyone else gets along fine.

Sounds like a tough situation, but because you two are both paying rent, that means you and your bf are contributing more toward the house, therefore should get the room if thats what was agreed to you. You should call Sara, and have her try and reason with him. He sounds very childish.
If nothing works...wait til hes out of the house for a long period of time, and switch rooms yourselves. If he gets mad, just tell him that if it was the hassle of moving rooms that bothered him..you took care of that for him, so..no hassle anymore.

If he's on the lease, chances are there is nothing you can do.

HOWEVER - you may be on to something with that added lock thing! You should ask your land lord if that's allowed and if not, see if the landlord can find away to evict Chris.

Next time, get everything in writing.

You could try to make a case in small claims court, but chances are you're only going to make the situation worse.

Hopefully you don't have very much longer on the lease and you and your bf can just move out when it expires.

Good luck! I feel for you!!!

Why didn't you two get your own place??? If your bf and him are on the lease than its their place. And i don't blame the other roommates for not getting involved. You need to either just deal with staying in the smaller room or you two should move out!

If your boyfriend is on the lease he has the right to tell him to move, without other lessee's aproval. If Sara wasn't on the lease, she had no right in leaving her boyfriend there and none of you should have let him stay. Call the sheriff's dept, police. basically he's tresspassing (if HE's not on the lease) if he is, then get a restraining order and have him evicted.

oh, i would definitely move out of there as soon as possible. See how he likes paying the full rent. He sounds like a jerk.

I think your boyfriend should have his name removed from the lease, after you two find your own place to rent...

Time to move out and give the jerk all the rooms. Move out.

Move. This house sounds too crowded and too dramatic. I don't understand how anyone can live like that.
