Please help me! my 6 year old california kingsnake snake hasn't eaten for at least a month and today I tried to feed her, but the rat bit her and the skin at the end of her tail is off a few centimeters. What can I do!?! I don't have enough money for a vet, please tell me what I can do to help her! Will she need a certain type of medicine? I cleaned her up a little and got rid of the rat and now she's laying in her waterbowl (with fresh water by the way) with her head out. Is this okay? will she be okay? please just help me, I don't know what I'll do if I lose her now.

Okay I just checked on her a little while ago, she's calmed down now, her bites don't look infected, plus it doesn't look as bad anymore since she dipped into her waterbowl. I DO NOT have enough money to take her to a vet, but does anyone know any good medicines that I should use to treat her bites anyways?

I am not sure what will happen. Animals tend to heal themselves by hiding from others, and let nature do its think. You SHOULD see a vet. Even though you don't have enough money, you could get money by asking your relatives, lemonad stand, sell cookies, sell ANYTHING. After that, see a vet, and buy medican. Your snake will be better.

You can clean the wound daily with warm water & soap, either by washing the site directly or placing the snake in a pillow case that has been moistened with warm, soapy water. Let the snake crawl around in the pillow case till the case cools off then remove the snake, being careful not to let the snake get a chill. You can put neosporin ointment on the wound directly, but use only small amounts, since the snake will rub the medicine off by crawling around. You can also use vasoline or the lotion from an aloe plant to soothe the affected area. As was stated above in another answer, you can raise the temp. a bit in the enclosue to aid in healing. These snakes are pretty hardy & can bounce back from this type of injury with a bit of help. Good luck!

the ideal thing to do is to take it to a vet.. but since you can't.. i'd raise the temp in the tank about 5-8 degrees.. this will help it's immune system out... you could also look into using some anti-bacterial medicine, but becareful because i don't know how medicine for humans will work for snakes... this is a good example though of why you should feed your snake dead prey, it may be cool to watch the snake kill the rat, but often times the rat can deliver a fatal infectious bite to the snake

if the bite looks bad put polisporean on it did the mouse bite the tip of the tail off or did it not shed properly? Try weaning your snake on to frozen food so to avoid this in the future. Snakes can go a long time with out eating it is the winter so .... they will go longer because of shorter days with out food if you cant aford a vet you really shouldnt have a pet right now because of this type of thing... sorry

If your snake is still bleeding put some flour or corn starch on it to clot the blood. As far as cleaning the wound you could use some hydrogen peroxide but be careful not to hurt your snake anymore. She is laying in her water because she feels safe in it
it probably also makes the wound feel better. Hope I helped a little.

I hope so. Kingsnakes are cool pets. Basically there is nothing you can do. Odds are he's not going to make it because vets are normally optimistic. You could see if there is an exotic animal specialist or exotic animal hospital near you because they'll give you the best assessment and treatment. Dont feel guilty about what happened though, there really wasn't any way you could have seen that happening.

the rat probably has and infection started within the snake's immune system. Take it to a vet!

Stop feeding live. Feed F/T rats, no chance of your snake getting hurt. I'm just worried that this may have put a fear into her and she may refuse to eat.
