Books 4, 5, 6 (original trilogy) was written by Lucas (I own them). Books 1, 2, 3 were written by someone else.

Maybe I'm not fully understanding the question, but If you mean the original story outlines from the 1970's it was George Lucas himself. The novels were not written by George Lucas at all, the original Star Wars novel from 1977 had George Lucas as the author, but it was actually ghost written by Alan Dean Foster, who kept it almost identical to the 4th revised rough draft of the movie script.

George Lucas wrote the stories for the movies, and then someone else wrote books off of them. Except I think that A New Hope was written by Lucas himself.
