If they are habitual liars, no, don't believe they do. After telling the same lie over and over again, they believe what they are saying.

Wow there are many different kinds of liars, all of which know they are lying. The difference is when they later believe what they are saying is truth, and start living the lie. These people actually visualize the lie in their mind and can give you full details of the event. They can see it in their mind and believe it to be truth, much lile you would recall a memory of your own. When confronted with it as a lie they can become very confrontational. For many reasons but mostly because you've insulted their intelligence and honor (Keepin mind they actually believe it and are now in denial of the lie).

If you're truly looking for insight on this, there are many books on this topic available at any local Library, or even e-books for that matter. If you're just trying to find a way to exploit a friend...Don't. Just let them live their Lies without you in their lives or, Simply Don't believe a word they say. If you're looking to help a relative, be careful because even if the whole family sees it, you need the whole family's help and support; it's not something you can take on alone. If you do it will tear your family apart.

Some do and some don't

There are sociopaths who believe the reality that they create. They lie without blinking an eye. Their reality is so off from reality that it is incredable how they live.

Some who lie struggle with quilt, but they are so twisted that they have a hard time remembering what they said to who.

A quote from Mark Twain
The man who tells the truth has less to remember.

Absolutely yes! Lying is a sympton of a bad relationship - they don't want to be truthful w/that person - so they lie & it gets worse. Big fat liar!

Maybe. To use the verb describing the act of a person to categorize that person in the absolute by that name, is wrong. Does a person who has on record lied a number of times knowingly lie? That is a question that does not have an answer for its self, nor does the question give knowledge, nor would a simple answer for it.

I think they do at first. But honestly, some people tell the same lies so often, I think the lines become blurred and they start to believe the lie themselves.
Others I'm sure just know it, and don't really care.

It seems like they would have to, considering what it means "to lie" and what a "liar" is. "To lie" means "to state something one believes to be false, with the intention of causing someone else to believe that false statement." It seems that by the defintion of a lie, one could not lie and also not know that he is lying.

Of course, otherwise they wouldn't be liars.
