The plant has long narrow blades that are green on top side and purple on the underneath side. They are all growing off of one stem in the center.

it would be really hard to guess based on a description, as there are so many similar plants. do you have a picture?

Take it with you to your local Home Depot store or nursery and let them look at it. Without more information, I couldn't even begin to guess...
