Definately Derek Jeter. I mean he does play for the great New York Yankees. That should be enough right there but if you need more well he was 2nd for AL MVP. That means something.

Don Mattingly is my favorite. He used to be a great hitter before his back injury. He is a good person who is a good signer. He always played hard and gave more than 100% in every game he played in. He is always one of my heroes. He is beloved by many Yankee fans. I think he was also one of a few players to have never been booed at Yankee Stadium. He has lived a clean life, he is a great role model, he never had anything bad to say about anyone, and no one had anything bad to say about him. When he announced his retirement on the plane ride back to New York, people were crying. I heard about in on his Yankeeography special. Yankee play by play announcer Michael Kay said," Don Mattingly may be the most revered athlete in New York history." Suzyn Waldman said,"He is the kind of person that you would want your son, father, uncle or grandfather to be like." Here are some of his stats:
.307 Career batting average
222 Home Runs
1,099 Runs batted in
1985 MVP (.343 AVG 45 HR 135 RBI) Won the A.L. Player of the year.
Highest fielding percentage of all time (.996)
9 Gold Gloves
Nicknames: Donnie Baseball, The Hit Man.
His #23 retired in 1997
In 1986, was named the greatest player to play the game.
Is tied for the record most grand slams in a season (8)
Has the record for most consecutive games with a home run (7)
Position: First base
Has the Yankee record for most hits in a season (238)
1984 A.L. Batting champion (.343)

From the past: Nolan Ryan. Active: Albert Pujols.
Nolan Ryan was incredible pitching, 7 no-hitters, 5000+ K's, 300+ wins. Obvious reasons.
Albert Pujols. The best player now in present. He's complete! He belts Homers, Triples, Doubles, Singles, he steals the bases, he has a good glove, and after all of that, he's a tremendous person out of the field. Oh, and no steroids!!! he's 100% natural.
Regards.

Andre "The Hawk" Dawson. He hit 49 homeruns and had 137 RBI's in 1987 and won the MVP on a last place team. (The Cubs) He was the rookie of the year and a perinneal All-Star. He is one of the only players ever to hit 400 homeruns and steal 300 bases. He had a cannon for an arm in right-field. He once scored from 2nd base on a sac-fly. He played the game with class and dignity, as mentioned by Ryne Sandberg in his own Hall of Fame induction. He played before the steroid era, and judging by his thin physique, was a clean player. He has been denied a Hall of Fame induction several years in a row because of inflated stats from steroid era players who are being denied for suspected use. He should be inducted not only due to his accomplishments, but also as an example of what you get if you play the game right!

The Say Hey Kid and Ted Wiliams. My two favorite players from my two favorite teams, Ted Williams is truly the greatest hitter to ever live. He could hit for an incredibly high average, and he hardly ever swung at bad pitches and struck out only 706 times in his career. He could hit homers, with 521 of them, and he had 525 doubles.
Willie Mays is the greatest player to ever live in my opinion. He hit 660 homers in his career, third most all-time (I no longer count Barry's homers after 2001) he got 3,283 hits in his career eleventh most all-time. He was an incredible fielder who captured 12 Gold Gloves, a record for outfielders. He also stole 338 career bases, and said if he knew 40-40 was such a big deal, he would've gone 50-50, he could've done it too.

Derek Jeter - Extremely talented shortstop. Has a career batting avg of .317. I don't know why, he's just been my favourite since i was like 10. Watching him play in all those World Series, and winning, just makes you admire a person i guess. I will never forget the homerun off the first pitch in game 4 of the 2000 world series off Mets starter Bobby Jones. It was a great thing to watch. And seeing him be so humble about it just makes you realise he's a great person too.

my friend and I were just talking about this and I have to go with Pete Rose. He was a true competitor. He may not have been the best skilled or the most talented, but he put it all out there every game. People even use his name for a figure of speech. "There was a dollar on the ground and this kid went Pete Rose after it." Now folks, the betting wasn't about money it was about competing. He was betting ON his own team. I mean the guy injured a catcher in an All Star Game. I say put him in the hall.

Derek Jeter is my favorite player because of what he brings to a team and what he stands for. He is dedicated, committed and a true leader. You see it time and time again when he dives in the stands for a foul ball. When the game is on the line you want him at the plate.
He is also a good person on and off the field.

Roberto Clemente - he was an outstanding hitter and a remarkable defensive player. Vladimir Guerrero is a lot like him in today's scene. I like Vladimir too because he's one of the few players who doesn't use a batting glove - old school style!
