What is your opinion on various Christian music genre's? How do you know the difference between when Christian rock really is Christian rock and when they just slap "Christian" on the label, and it's not really Christian? (This was a question from my husband)

all the genres have their good songs and the bad i like them all because they have a good message, as for the second question, listen to the message they try to get across, if they mention god only once and/or only in the first song, or they talk about anything not worship related
they are fake and just trying to go as christian,
and they will get what coming to them in the end

Best way to tell is to listen to the lyrics, or read the lyrics online. If a group sings about nothing but girls and love, it's probably more of a label than anything else. If the songs are about God, or mixed, it's most likely Christian. There are some really good Christian rock groups out there - one of the best is Casting Crowns. But there are also 'mainstream' groups that have a very spiritual/Christian message to their music - look at Creed, they refused to be labeled as a Christian group, but if you really pay attention to the lyrics, they're very spiritual.

This actually depends on the music vendor. Usually all of the music inside of Mardel is labeled correctly. If you go to Walmart, you kind of have to take your chances.

To Mardel, all music must meet the criteria of praise and worship, gospel, or contemporary.

To Walmart, if the song mentions God in a non-slanderous way it has got to be Christian.

What is my opinion of the genres? Well, it is mostly all that I listen to. (Sometimes, I splurge and listen to movie soundtracks or classical music.)

Well the best bet would be to look at the lyrics and decide for yourself on your view as to if you think its Christian music or not. I like the variety of Christian music now. It's more my music style. I listen to stuff like Flyleaf and Underoath which are both Christian, because it has a different take on it.

I love Christian music as a whole and I love Christian rap - Tobymac. It is still Christian music! Alot of times the music industry decides what a group is defined as. I usually listen and read the lyrics. Sometimes you have to use your judgement
