personally i had a ferret and loved that lil guy. they can be smelly though if you don't bathe them and clean out their cage very regularly. they can be litter trained and can run freely around the house as long as you are at home. if you don't have a lot of time on your hands though they aren't a good idea. but other wise they can be fun they do like to steal things though. mine liked pens with rubber grips and shoes. i had to get rid of him and when i cleaned out my closet i found a pile of pens in the back corner. the one good thing is once you find their hiding place you don't have to wonder where they took things they always take things to the same place everytime.

Rats are the best choice if you want a rodent. They're a lot smarter and MUCH friendlier than hamsters, mice, or gerbils. I promise you, you will not regret getting a cute little baby rat (or, better yet, two rats). You should get a female rat if you want a pet that's very playful and a male rat if you want a pet that's very calm.

Ferrets are a ton of fun, but they take a LOT of work and they're rather destructive. Make sure you do your research before you get one!

A RAT! They are smart, funny, and fun. My children always had them for pets when they were kids. As soon as they got home from school the kids would go to the rat cage. The rats would start jumping excitedly on the side of the cage because they knew the kids were going to take them out. The kids would open the cage and the rats would jump into their hand and crawl up on their shoulder. The kids would play with them and then let them run around the house for awhile. Sometimes you'd see a little rat crawled up sleeping in their lap while they were doing homework. They'd call them and they'd run back from wherever they were, because the rats learn their names. They love big piles of laundry, so if the kids left any clothes on the floor, you'd usually see them crawling out from under there when you called them. They are sweet, rewarding pets.

Ferrets are great fun to raise (they are very clean animals too), you can teach them tricks and even play hide and seek with them! Another good animal is a guinea pig.

Chinchillas and sugar gliders are fun - not easy, but fun. Whatever pet you get, make sure it was handraised. I got a rabbit once, since I'd heard so many great stories of rabbits watching tv with you and such. However, she hadn't been hand raised, and was neurotic and timid, and she was too old to be re-trained.

Do a search.
What type of behaviors, temperment, and amount of needed care such as grooming, do you want.
How much money, time, and energy do you have.
Do you want something with a short or long life span.
Figure it out, than Google it, see what comes up.

A ferret, maybe get two. They are wonderful pets, so amuzing, and comical. They do get into stuff due to their curiosity. But they are great.
