The 4x4 on my 1996 dodge ram 1500 is out, any idea's?

4x4 high does not do anything, 4x4 low makes a horrible clunking noise and jerks the hole truck bad. This is bad cause i live in alaska and i need my 4x4 back soon, thanks for any help guys.

is that one the one that has the push button or do u have to actually move the lever to engage the box??
