You can get a pocket pet, like a rabbit, a chinchilla, a guinea pig, a rat, or a gerbil or hamster. i personally really like guinea pigs and rats. If you handle them a lot they become very social and each one has their own personality. They are easy to care for, and they only stink if you don't clean their cages enough. I have also met some very social rabbits that have great personalities. The two that i like the least are gerbils and hamsters because if not socialized well when they are young they have a tendency to bite. Do some research on the different animals and find which one fits you best. Good Luck!

Ferrets have musk glands. They are fun, though.

I've never had a chinchilla, but they seem extremely cleanly.

Guinea pigs are fun. They make neat noises.

Rodents are fun, but they are prone to pooping on you.

Snakes and lizards require about the same amount of time as other pets, but their care is different. Some are just hard to get to eat.

I've heard a lot lately about squirrels, but I don't know where to get one.

There are some really cool chickens out there. I'm eyeing a pair of blue cochens. If you feed them in a crate, you can close them in at night to keep the crowing down. (Roosters streatch really tall when they crow.)

Peacocks can get aggressive, but they are gorgeous. Just punt them when they start clicking at you.

Many parrots are biters, and I'm not able to do anything with them. Parakeets are nice though. Indoor birds tend to throw their food, a LOT, and outdoor birds tend to poop all over.

Honestly, you sound like a hermit crab person. Fascinating to watch, minimal care, and doesn't give a rat's behind if you leave them with a friend for a week.

Have you considered a lizard? Geckos are fun pets and are easy to take care of (if you don't mind dealing with live crickets). Mice and rats can also be nice-smelling pets when their cages are cleaned regularly, and they can be very affectionate.

I would suggest a Chia Pet. They only need a little water.

Most critters on some way shape or form are going to smell. I had snakes. Every couple of weeks you needed to clean the cages and feed them. Pretty low maintenance.

GOOD LUCK!

Water dragons are a pretty easy pet to care for if you take the time and research them first. all pets require time and patience

a parakeet I had one before they are not too hard to take care of just need to clean the bottom of the cage everyday and wash it out once a month. sounds like alot but it just becomes part of your routine.

well you have to be willing to clean it enough that it wont smell bad. since this is all your concerned about i question your ability to take care of an animal for as long as its life expectency.

Stuffed animals are great. No vet visits, no litter boxes, no water changes, no walks at ungodly hours etc.....
