Any chance the bulb has blown its lowest wattage filament? Typically a 50-100-150 bulb lights first on the 50 watt, then the 100, then both. If it takes two clicks to get it to go on, that is probably the problem. Try the bulb in a different 3-way fixture if you have one.

Go to your neighborhood hardware of lighting store and by a new socket. It isn't that hard to replace.
