yes, it is quite unrealistic to think along these lines .there will always be someone speaking their mind about someone else behind closed doors, over the telephone, via the internet---even when positive things are being said. I suppose it's just human nature.

I hate to think that is actually the case but ...I think it is.
I was having lunch with the girl at work we have lunch every day together, and she continued to talk badly about the two girls she works closely with, ..not just in front of me, but in front of another girl that walked over to our table, and any way after about 10 minutes of badly bashing these girls, one of them walks out near us, at that second..my friend did everything but kiss her ***, you know smothered her with kindness...at that point I realized .." oh my God!" what does she say about me??. I have turned more into a loner, except for 2 friends I have had for about 28 years.

Yes, very. People love to gossip - it makes them feel better about themselves. Everyone gets talked about at some point or another - some people more then others.

yes. but if they do, it's cuz they don't have the guts to say it to your face. i found out about a nickname i had a work once. a behind-the-back nickname, of course. at first it upset me, but then i realized all that proved was they were punk-asses who deserved NO RESPECT! i took the nickname as my own, with pride. i still use it.

...it's not always bad things that they're saying behind your back :)
but regardless, everyone has to learn sometime that the world keeps revolving even when they're asleep (figuratively!)
