I friend of mine once went on a business trip to Russia where someone ceremoniously gave him a camel. When he came home, the camel stayed in Russia with the people who gave it to him. He forgot to bring me the Russian army watch I had asked him to bring me, so he gave me his camel instead. I now give it to you, and you can give it to your friend.

I have no idea where in Russia it is or what it is named.

Good luck.

First, ask his parents before hand!!! They may not want you to get him a pet at all, so be careful.

Since he's not allowed to have anything like a rodent and doesn't like the other traditional things, I would have to say a parakeet. They may take a little bit of work to make as friendly and sweet as you want them to be, but it's very worth it. We had the best parakeet, she was the greatest and lived for nine - almost ten - years.

If you do choose to get a parakeet, make sure that the boy's house is warm enough. Cold was a great factor in our parakeet's death. Also, don't get one that's at the top of the perches. This type is very dominent and will not be bossed around, which is exactly what parakeets usually need.

The ones you want are somewhere in the middle, and aren't sickly. These ones are usually willing to be subjective are wonderful little friends. They are basically little balls of personality on two spindly legs.

Good luck!

Don't go for a bird, it's too much trouble and too much fragile for a 11 year old child.
I have had a dwarf rabbit and enjoyed it a lot. Small, no sound, no trouble... but it eats all the paper it founds in the house!

It doesn't sound he and his parents like pets. I would think of another kind of gift. A video game, if he has a system. Movie tickets, tickets to a sporting event if he likes sports. Think about what he likes to do in his free time and that might help you decide the best gift to get him.

A friendly cat (only 1, and make sure it’s neutered or spayed!!!) You can get one for free from different people in the classifieds. If it’s not neutered it will urinate in the house for scenting. However “CatSnip” will neuter and vaccinate the animals for only $30, find out when they will be in your area (part of pet smart or Petco I think).

Well if your looking for a dog, airedales create less dander, because no dog is "danderless" but if you just want any pet, when i was 11 i had a hamster! and a fish.

i think the best pet for a 11 year old is a hamster because they're not much responsibility than any other pets. But her parents wont let her so, i guess a turtle, bird, lizard, snakes, horse, bunny or a guinea pig that isnt that much work.

Best check with your friend's parents before getting him any kind of a pet. Then discuss that with the parents, what they think your friend would like.

A bird or chinchilla would be cool. And just why wont his parents allow hamsters? There cute easy docile creatures.

I would suggest a hedgehog.
They are interesting, kind animals but can be a real hassle to take care of.

Look it up and ask around: might just be the perfect pet!
