I mean c'mon. You spend frivolously on a shiny friggin rock (aka ring), some dress you'll never wear again, and a layered cake that will eventually end up coming out your anus. What's the point? Why not just have a really nice party at home and save some cash?

Does anyone agree?

Just wondering...

Why get out of bed? You'll just get back in later.

Frankly I am just amazed by it all. I hate it and it is SICK and so wasteful and SOOOO not intimate. I am disgusted by these pageants.

I had an awesome park wedding... we rented a couple of tents tables chairs (about 100 people came)... put rugs, a table, linenes etc a couple of chairs in each bathroom... made them real nice... we played CD's on a big 'boom box'... found a great local caterer.... buffet... 3 hot dishes, salad, cold cuts, rolls diet and reg. soda, wite and red 'wine in a box' and hired a bartender from the caterer.... best ever wedding and all had a great time

The ONLY obligation is this.... I had some family and friends coming from out of town and i wanted them to be comfortable.

SHE wanted it I did not but i let go and it was nice. I would have been thrilled with no wedding and that would have been fine.

I agree with all of that except for the cake part. Got have the big cake, that you'll always remember the taste of! If I was to ever be asked, I would do something completely undone before or very simple and small.

I totally agree. I'm getting married in March and I told everybody in our small wedding party to wear something out of their closet. I do plan on buying a nice dress. Just something somewhat white that will bring out my curves and make me a hot bride. I plan on getting married in my friend's backyard for free. My reception will be held at our "home-based" bar. I won't have to pay for food, beer, or decorations. I'm not a frilly type chick, so being non-traditional suits me fine.

I agree with you, but to each his or her own. I say, if you have the desire (and the money) go for it. It's the people who foolishly spend money they don't have and get themselves deep into debt for the sake of one wedding day only to find themselves down the road with a troubled marriage because they're constantly fighting over money that never cease to amaze me. People are just so short-sited. Romance does not have to make you stupid.

well it's not up to you, is it? it's up to the couple and their budgets.
if you have a nice big house yes sure why not invite 100 people or maybe 50 at least? or maybe just big backyard when you can do outdoor tent weddings, that saves money too.
I know my friends got good bargain on rings too, rent the gowns and bake the cake themselves. It's also fun and help unite families together..

I think it's a waste of money. And most women put more thought into the wedding, than they put into the man they are marrying! If I ever get married, I'll elope and throw a party when I get home.
