Yes, he's one of the most dominant pitchers in history. But when was the last time he's won a ring and what's he trying to prove? Last year he chose to resign with the Astros because he "wanted to play for a winner," yet there's been speculation that he's complained about the run support he's gotten since signing with the Astros. Plus, he can't even committ to a whole season. Isn't it just time for him to tip his cap (for the last time, really) and leave before he's known as a player that hung around way too long.

And please don't call him a 20 game winner. He can't even start a season until it's already nearing the All-Star break. You're telling me if he played all year he'd be a 35-40 game winner with another team? Wow.

I think he should retire, i'm a fan of Roger Clemens too! Too much baggage comes with him.

He has a point about run support. His won-loss record is nothing to write home about, but his earned run average is low, very low.He hasn't hung around too long - in fact if he were on a team with any offense at all he'd still be winning 20 games. If the Astros committed to putting some bats in the lineup Clemens would start sooner.I think he'd look great on the White Sox.They'd give him all the scoring he would ever need. And they won't have to win games 10-9.
*EDIT* Nobody is saying Clemens would win 35-40 game, jackass. He would be winning 20 and not 10-12.He still has one of the lowest ERA's in the league and can barely get above .500.If the morons in charge of the Astros got him anyone that could drive in a few runs,he would have a better record and the Astros just might get back to the World Series. If you don't like Clemens, just say so and be done with it.I'm sure more teams than not would love to have him on their staff. And satisfy my curiousity - what team are you the GM of?

Because he's still considered one of the best pitchers in baseball.

He probably would have picked up an additional 15 or so wins the past couple of years if the Astros could've hit a lick.

Teams might want him even if he comes in after the all star break because they want him for the playoffs.

However, he really has only been a 6 inning pitcher for the past 3 years. If you want a dominating playoff pitcher, I think you'd want him to go at least 8 to really shut down someone.

The Yankees won a few world series a while back feasting on teams after their ace came out in the 7th.

I guess it goes to show that theres not too many dominant pitchers in today's game. Clemens is still that if healthy. At 44 he still throws in the mid 90's and can strike people out. No he won't win 20 games but if he comes in say mid May and pitches unbtil the Series he can give you 10 - 15 wins and more importantly what he gives to your young pitchers, experience.

Because the guy is an ageless wonder who can still dominate any game. The Astros could not score a run with him on the mound so his full potential could not be unlocked. With the Yankees, Clemens a sure-fire 20-game winner.

If he retired now, he would go out on a high note having dominated in the NL, with an abbreviated season. If he goes back to the Yankees or Red Sox, the AL East will not be very nice to him & he will likely have some very ugly stats - the type that would make him wish he did retire (for real).

Who cares? He's already starting with his games. Hold out for some ungodly sum of money he really doesn't deserve, play for 2 or 3 months, announce his retirement, then start the whole b***s*** over again next seson.

It would be better for baseball in general if he'd just retire, and let Randy Johnson pass him on the strikeout list.

Because baseball reporters need something to write about in January.

because he cheats...he waits till half-way through the season to see which teams are good and picks the one he wants to go to and gets the biggest contract ever (except for david beckham)
