The problem is with the thermostat. That might or might not be easy to replace. But first look at the age of the HW heater. If it's over 10 years old, you can probably save more money in the long run by just replacing the whole thing.

It feels like the extreme close off on the thermostat isn't doing its interest. the 1st concern to do is look at it to work out if the placing is particularly extreme - if so decrease it some. circulate the placing from side to side slightly to work out if cleansing the contacts slightly remedies the situation. try this with the flexibility OFF. while the tank is empty it particularly is time to contemplate shifting (or in simple terms rotating it?) it so which you would be able to provider the heating components while the time comes for that. that's going to be easy adequate while empty. it must be failing to experience temperature acceptable simply by sludge strengthen interior the tank, so drain and freshen up the tank in case you're observing the thermostat situation. If no excitement from the cleansing and placing ceremonies, replace the thermostat.

Check the thermostat. If it is bad and doesn't sense the water being to hot it will not shut off, therefore continuing to heat the water till the breaker blows.
